Stress is a normal part of life. The problem comes when the pressure stops feeling temporary and starts becoming your default setting. You may feel constantly busy, unable to switch off, or as though you're always working through the next thing on the list. Even when you do stop, your mind may still be racing. Over time, this can leave you feeling drained, disconnected from the things you enjoy, and unsure how to regain a sense of balance.
Many people become so used to functioning under pressure that they stop noticing its impact. Being productive can start to feel safer than slowing down. It can become difficult to switch off without feeling guilty, rather than something that's simply part of a healthy life.
When we're under pressure for long periods, it can affect more than our energy levels. Motivation, concentration, patience and confidence can all take a hit. Things that once felt manageable may start to feel harder work, and small tasks can begin to feel disproportionately overwhelming.
Therapy offers an opportunity to step back from the constant demands of everyday life and take stock. Together, we can explore what's contributing to the pressure, identify patterns that may be keeping it going, and consider what a more sustainable way forward could look like.
